Old English Sheepdog
Want to see your dog here? |
Sometimes referred to as “bobtail” this sheepdog was once said to be fierce and untrustworthy. That is not true for today’s sheepdog. They are loving, gentle and faithful. They have a very strong herding instinct and may try to herd small children by nipping and bumping them, but otherwise they are very good with them. They do best with a home that has an average sized lot but will do okay in an apartment. A good run is great exercise for this dog. Males will be 22-24 inches in height and weigh around 65 pounds. Females will be 20-22 inches and weigh about 60 pounds. Their long coat needs to be brushed at least three times a week to prevent matting. They are seasonal shedders, shedding the heaviest in the spring.

Otterhound
Want to see your dog here? |
This breed was named after its preferred prey, the otter. They are friendly, loving and devoted. The Otterhound is good with children but can be clumsy with infants or toddlers. This large dog can stand 24-26 inches and weigh 66-115 pounds. An apartment is not recommended for this dog. A home with a large yard is best. They have an acute sense of smell so it’s not a good idea to let this dog off its leash in an unsecured open area. Their coat tends to mat; weekly brushing will help reduce this problem.
